Blackout Companions for Children

During the 1940s, Iris Halsey created (and patented) glow-in-the-dark toys for children. She hoped they would help children who were afraid of the dark, "especially the enforced darkness when bombers are overhead." She eventually started selling these as "Magic Light" dolls, and they're now collector's items, occasionally popping up on eBay and other auction sites. San Francisco Examiner - Dec 7, 1941
