Fried Chicken Law

In 1961, the city council of Gainesvilla, Ga. passed an ordinance requiring everyone there to eat fried chicken with their fingers — and not with a knife and fork. Orlando Sentinel - Jan 22, 1961 The ordinance was a stunt designed to draw attention to the city as the "poultry capital of the world." But it did claim one victim. In 2009, Ginny Dietrick was arrested for violating it. At the time she was celebrating her 91st birthday. Of course, her arrest was a prank. The charges were immediately dismissed by the mayor. Still, Dietrick must be the only person ever arrested for eating fried chicken with a fork. Gainesville Times - July 21, 2009
