Jungle Message Encoder-Decoder
A Vietnam-War-era device for sending "jungle messages". The name was misleading. It was really an attempt to come up with technology that would allow troops who spoke different languages (and who happened to be fighting alongside each other in the jungle) to communicate reliably. The problem was that troops had to choose from only 32 pre-selected messages. source: SEACORE semi-annual report (aug 1964-jan 1965) Electronic Age - Winter 1965
