Cream Makers

Is it possible to convert butter back into cream? If you had asked me a few days ago I would have said no, but then I came across "cream makers," which were gadgets sold for much of the twentieth century that claimed to do exactly this. Why convert butter into cream? Because back in the day people usually had butter available at home, but less often had cream. So it was an easy way to make cream with what they had on hand. Plus, the gadgets allowed them to make cream of any thickness they desired. I can't find a company currently selling a cream maker. Perhaps they went out of fashion because its easier nowadays to pick up a small container of cream at a supermarket.
