Fat Corner
To create his work Fettecke, or 'Fat Corner,' artist Joseph Beuys stuffed butter in the corner of a room and along its baseboards. He made versions of this work as early as the 1960s, but the most permanent version of it was created in 1982 in his Dusseldorf studio. In 1986 (after his death) it became one of the select handful of works that have been mistaken for trash and thrown out by a janitor. The janitor explained that it had begun to "smell rancid."
