The Sleep Suit
Designer Forrest Jessee unveiled his "Sleep Suit" around 2010. An explanation from Makezine.com: Buckminster Fuller practiced Dymaxion Sleeping, where one has four 30 minute naps over a period of 24 hours. Architect/ Artist/ Scientist/ Graphic Designer Forrest Jessee thought that he would give this a try, but found that getting to a bed and ready for sleep took almost as much time as the sleep itself. So he developed a "transportable and adjustable cocoon that allows for constant air flow in a variety of different positions and environments." You can get in and out of it in less than a minute and then sleep just about anywhere. By wrapping the body in rings of EVA foam, it can be used in any position. Jessee got a patent for his invention. However, the patent focuses on the corrugated EVA foam material that could, he suggested, be used as packing material. He mentions the Sleep Suit in the patent only as an additional possible use (and includes a drawing of it). So I'm not sure if the Sleep Suit was intended to be tongue-in-cheek. The pictures above suggest to me that it was. Unfortunately we can't ask Jessee because he died in 2019 at the young age of 42. More info: cargo collective via Book of Joe
