Cyclist actually pretty proud of new death by dangerous cycling law

A CYCLIST is gratified that the severe danger he poses to innocent pedestrians is finally being recognised in law.

Tom Booker, aged 36, regularly terrorises anyone who dares to be on foot when he is travelling around central London at speed, but until now could only be prosecuted for ‘wanton and furious’ cycling under legislation dating back 160 years.

He said: “I liked ‘wanton and furious’, obviously. Had that tattooed on the back of my calves. Drives the black cabs crazy.

“But the injustice of getting a two-year custodial sentence at the absolute maximum? That rankled. That’s not proportionate to the fear and chaos I cause every single day, and the lads on the electric bikes were inconsolable.

“This new law threatening a life sentence has really warmed the cockles. I reckon the arseholes who blithely step off kerbs when they can clearly see I’m only 50 feet away will think twice once I’m named in law as a potential killer. Ups the respect.

“What we need now is a high-profile manhunt for a cyclist with a string of victims, then a trial watched by a rapt nation, then imprisonment for life. Come on, the Met, give us what we so richly deserve.”

Pedestrian Lucy Parry said: “I’d still feel humiliated if I was run down by a push-bike. It’s not got the same urban kudos as dying under a bendy bus.”
