Bullet Man finishes marathon
While running Michigan's Grand Valley Marathon in 1978, about 10 miles into it, Dennis Rainear was hit in the head by a .22-caliber bullet. He didn't know what hit him, so he kept running and managed to finish the race in a time of 3 hours, 9 minutes. Afterwards, he went to a hospital to have the bullet removed. He subsequently became known as "Bullet Man" and kept running marathons. The shooter was never found.
